Ring, the company known for front-door security cameras, just announced that it is releasing a new product: Pet Tag. This exciting new product is designed with you and your pet in mind. In fact, the people at Ring know how stressful it is when a furry friend goes missing. The Pet Tag is designed to help you bring your pet home. Pet Tag has a QR code that “provides helpful info about your pet to anyone who scans it.” This nifty device also gives scanners an easy way to contact you without revealing your personal information. It also allows pet owners to mobilize the local Ring App community to join the search for a lost pet. You can easily share the news with just a few quick taps on your phone or other device.

Pet Tag “launched” on September 13, 2023, with an option to pre-order online. This newly-released product is estimated to reach homes on October 4, 2023. Pet Tags cost $9.99. Additionally, the box you receive with your new Pet Tag will include a helpful user guide on how to set up the device.

Pet owners will need to have a functioning phone camera and internet connection. You will also need to install the Ring App in order to set up the device. Right now, the color of the Pet Tag is silver. This small device easily attaches to a pet’s collar. You can use the keyring Ring sends with the device. The Pet Tag is a convenient small size and is lightweight, with a diameter of only about 1 inch across.

How Does Pet Tag Work?

According to Ring, users will create “pet profiles.” These should include photos of a pet, their medical information, and more, all in the easy-to-use Ring App. This makes it easy for pet owners to update the app.

If a pet gets lost, anyone can use their phone cameras to scan the Pet Tag’s QR code. This will send an alert to the owner that the pet has been found and allow the rescuer to see the information you share on your Pet Profile. After that, Ring makes it easy for the rescuer to get in touch with you over the phone or text. Because the process is anonymous, nobody has to share personal contact information.

Reasons You May Need a Ring Pet Tag

Why invest in a Ring Pet Tag? Here are five reasons! Truly, your dog or cat will thank you for keeping them safe.

1. Millions of Pets Go Missing Each Year

According to the American Humane Society, about 10 million pets go missing each year in the United States. Sadly, many of those end up in animal shelters. You love your furry friends and certainly do not want your pet to end up as one of the animals in a shelter! If you do lose your pet, investing in a Pet Tag can help ensure that they make it safely home.

2. You Do Not Want to Share Personal Information with Strangers

If your pet does get lost, you want to ensure that their rescuer has a way to reach you! Planning ahead and providing your contact information will give you peace of mind. However, sharing personal contact information with strangers can also be anxiety-provoking and may not be something you feel comfortable with. In contrast, Ring Tag gives you a way to connect with your pet’s rescuer without disclosing information like your name, email, phone, or address! This keeps everyone safe and as private as you want to be.

3. You Don’t Like Microchips

For a long time, microchipping your pet was a common way to ensure your pet would be safe and returned for you. However, there are a few things to consider about microchipping. First, they are not proof of ownership. However, Pet Tag lets you show that you are the pet’s original owner and the one who set up their profile. Second, many pets find microchipping a painful and stressful experience, since it is an invasive procedure! In comparison, Pet Tags are easy and painless. They can be easily attached or detached from your pet’s collar. Third, microchips do not store information. They are simply an ID number. What they can communicate about your pet is limited. However, Pet Tag lets rescuers know vital information about your beloved pet. For these reasons and many more, Pet Tags may be a good alternative or addition to microchips.
