We know that predators are often very large animals that will feast on other larger prey. However, it is a sight to watch them singlehandedly take down massive prey and devour them alive. And one that is plentifully seen in the land of Africa. Let’s not miss this incredible action in the video above!

Crocodile Hunting Baboon

The YouTube video clip captured above takes us to the Kruger National Park. This is where a crocodile is hunting for a baboon. The Experience African YouTube page filmed and shared this video. Crocodile Hunting in Kruger National Park

As the intense video starts at the top, we see massive crocodiles hunting baboons in South Africa. He has managed to capture one of these slippery little fellows and is now dining on this animal whole.

A crocodile has a V-shaped snout, unlike the very commonly misidentified alligator, which has a U-shaped snout. Crocodiles have large mouths that house 66 teeth. These teeth are perfect for tearing apart their prey, who have little hope of escaping.

Why Do Crocodiles Keep Their Mouths Open?

We’re sure you have seen a crocodile with its mouth open at some time. Whether in a picture, a documentary, or even at your local zoo. Seeing a crocodile’s mouth open isn’t that uncommon. And it doesn’t mean they are ready to attack.

According to the National Park Service, “This behavior is also a way of regulating body temperature and does not mean that the crocodile is acting aggressively toward people.”

Think of it almost like a dog constantly panting with his mouth open. It’s a natural occurrence for a dog to do this. Likewise, it is natural for a crocodile to keep his mouth open, especially when sunning out by the water.

Baboons (Papio) of the family Cercopithecidae can be easily labeled as some of the largest monkeys in the world. They can weigh anywhere from 30-100 pounds and reach up to three feet in height.

These baboons are known for their muzzle-type snout that gives them a unique appearance. They can get up to incredible speeds of 30 miles per hour, making them difficult prey to catch. However, this crocodile was lucky and able to hunt down this monkey.
