Greed is a dangerous desire that gets many people in trouble—the intense impulse always to want more. No matter how much one has, the greedy ache for more is a dangerous game to play. Well, animals can be the same—the desire to want more territory, females, or food. Let’s see the greediest leopard in Africa in the video above.

Leopard Hunting Warthogs in Africa

The short video clip at the top of this blog post occurs in Africa. A leopard is out hunting alone and has his sights set on a warthog. The Latest Sightings YouTube page gathered this footage from a tour guide or tourist on this self-driven safari. In addition to this predator, their most popular videos are of a buck fighting wild dogs, lions catching a crocodile, and a lion outsmarting a buffalo.

Warthogs Running for Their Life

, and antelopes, lions will also hunt for young animals.

As the video starts, we see two warthog piglets standing on the side of the road. A safari group driving by has stopped to see these adorable piglets. Only these young warthogs are without the protection of their mother and are in danger of predators lurking nearby looking for an easy meal.

Suddenly, a leopard pounces out of nowhere and gives them almost no time to respond. The two warthog piglets take off running. Africa Geographic states, “If attacked, their first defense is always to flee, and their turn of speed is simply astonishing.”

Unfortunately, one piglet was not fast enough, and the leopard quickly scooped them up. This leopard had it made and now has an easy meal. However, the other warthog piglet stopped in the road to watch this horror unfold as the leopard captured his brother.

This leopard’s greed got the best of him, and he took off chasing the other piglet while dropping the one he had in his mouth! This leopard’s greed cost him a meal.

How Fast Can Warthogs Run?

Warthogs (Phacochoerus africanus) are fierce animals in a fight that use their teeth and tusks to their advantage to impale and ward off predators. However, they will do it if they can get out of fighting. The Maryland Zoo adds that warthogs “would rather flee than fight.”

And they can flee at tremendous speeds of up to 35 miles per hour. This can put a lot of animals to shame, as we can see from the video above. Leopards (Panthera pardus) can get up to speeds of 36 miles per hour. So, this leopard knew it had to sneak up on these piglets if it could grab one.
