Breaking news in Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida, today involves the capture of an adult female black bear within the confines of the theme park. Disney has several famous bears, including Winnie and Baloo, and the Country Bear Jamboree members, but this was a real, live black bear! The bear, first spotted in a tree, prompted immediate closures for the safety of guests. One of many strange bear sightings around the world, reports of a bear at Disney World caused a stir throughout the news and social media.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials say the bear was captured and will be relocated to Ocala National Forrest. Park visitors state the situation was frenzied, with nearly half of Magic Kingdom closed to the public shortly after opening on Monday, September 18, 2023. All areas and rides in Adventureland, Frontierland, and Liberty Square closed while the bear hunt pressed on. Once the bear was safely captured, the park re-opened, and business proceeded as usual. However, many guests expressed that wait times in the temporarily closed areas soared once they re-opened.

A bear in Disney World seems pretty insane, but what other unusual places have bears been spotted? Let’s discover some strange bear sightings before checking out the original social media post at the end!

Other Strange Bear Sightings

Bears usually keep to themselves, but hunger and thirst often drive them closer to human settlements. Many suspect this is the reason behind some strange bear sightings. Let’s explore a few!

Bear on a Plane

Strange bear sightings: bear on a place
Bears are curious creatures. They like to check out strange new things in their environment.

This strange bear sighting doesn’t involve a theme park like Disney World but a massive grizzly bear inspecting a plane. The weight of the grizzly bear causes the nose of the plane to rise up into the air! Onlookers were quite amused as the bear explored the plane. It even climbed on top of the cabin. We’ve all heard about snakes on a plane, but this strange bear sighting takes it to the next level!

Bear Under the House

One Connecticut family was in for the shock of their lives when their dog discovered a monstrous male black bear had taken up residence beneath their pool deck. Reported in January 2023, ABC News posted an interview with the homeowners. Nicknamed Marty, the family stated he was calm and uninterested in them. Wildlife officials for the area instructed the homeowners to keep their distance. They also were told that if Marty wasn’t causing problems, to let him stay as he would likely move off as warmer weather approached. This strange bear sighting is a little too close to home!

Our last strange bear sighting involves not a bear found in a weird place but an interesting and extremely rare bear. The Kermode bear is a rare species of bear endemic to British Columbia in Canada. Most of these bears are born with black fur, but 10% of them are born pure white. These special white-coated bears are referred to as “spirit bears.” They are highly prized by Canadians, and hunting them is illegal. Several of these bears have been spotted in the Great Bear Rainforest.
