From the playful Golden Retriever to the tiny Chihuahua, dogs have been loyal companions to humans for thousands of years all around the world. With over 200 breeds, dogs come in many different sizes, shapes, and colors, each with a distinct personality that makes them unique. Dogs aren’t just loving pets, they are also remarkable helpers, from working as service dogs for humans with disabilities to herding sheep and cows for farmers, to escorting police on daily operations.

In our kid-friendly unit study, students will expand on their knowledge of physical characteristics of dogs, various dog breeds, how dogs communicate, ways to keep dogs healthy and happy, and what makes dogs part of the mammal animal classification group. Included in the unit study are five days’ worth of comprehensive daily lesson plans, instructional materials, graphic organizers, children’s book recommendations, comprehension questions, writing prompts, and other engaging activity worksheets.
