Newborn kittens have sweet, sparkling blue eyes, but as they get older, they develop melanin. This changes their bright blue eyes to other colors like gold, green, or brown. However, some breeds keep their beautiful baby blues through adulthood thanks to their unique genetics (specifically, less melanin in their irises).

Many of these blue-eyed breeds have striking pointed markings (lighter-colored bodies with darker accents on the face, ears, legs, and tail) or solid white coats. Some lucky felines even have unique “odd-eyes”, with one blue eye and one that’s an entirely different color. So, if you’re ready to be dazzled by the most beautiful baby blues you’ve ever seen, check out these 18 amazing cat breeds with blue eyes!

1. Siamese

The Siamese cat breed is well-recognized for its elegant pointed coat and captivating blue eyes. All Siamese cats share these beautifully blue due to centuries of selective breeding. But their undeniable beauty isn’t their only charm; Siamese are also incredibly loving and affectionate companions who love to “chat” with their humans.

2. Persian

The Persian is another iconic cat breed with beautiful blue eyes, although not every Persian cat does. Persians have long luscious hair and adorably squished faces that make them look like they are perpetually grumpy. However, in reality, these stunning cats are calm, loving, and very affectionate.

3. Turkish Angora

The Turkish Angora is a dazzling natural cat breed with ancient roots in the Ankara Province in modern-day Turkey. Although predominantly white, many Turkish Angoras have stunning colors that range from black to orange and even calico. Many Turkish Angoras — especially those with white hair — also have piercing blue eyes.

4. Turkish Van

Although similar to the Turkish Angora, the Turkish Van is much larger. In addition, these lovely white cats sport a definite “Van pattern” with colored fur on their heads and tails. Because they are usually predominantly white, Turkish Vans often have blue eyes, or on occasion, “odd-eyes” — one blue eye and one amber eye.

5. Snowshoe
