Bearded Dragons have very specific cage needs. They cannot always “see” glass and will not ever understand that glass is a boundary that they cannot pass. Therefore, they will continue to hit the glass and eventually injure their snout. In severe cases, this can cause mouth rot, which can be serious.

Therefore, you have to be quite cautious when picking out a cage for your Bearded Dragon. Sadly, most cages that are designed for Bearded Dragons are not actually suitable for them.

To help you out, we’ve reviewed some of our favorite Bearded Dragon cages on the market. Hopefully, these reviews will help you choose the perfect cage for your beardie.

#1 New Age Pet ECOFLEX Mojave Reptile Lounge – Best Overall

We highly recommend the New Age Pet ECOFLEX Mojave Reptile Lounge, as only the front is glass. Therefore, your lizard is much less likely to rub against the glass and develop mouth rot. There are multiple sizes available, though you will likely need the largest size for your Bearded Dragon.

We also like that the front opens instead of the top. This makes preparing hanging limbs and climbing structures a bit easier since they can rest on the top. The lock on the door provides plenty of security.

The top is a mesh screen, which can accommodate a UV and heat lamp. Because Bearded Dragons will absolutely need these pieces of equipment, we highly recommend this cage.

#2 Zoo Med ReptiBreeze Reptile Cage – Best Tall Cage

This enclosure features a lot of vertical space. Therefore, it is a great option for smaller spaces. You can easily keep whole plants and plenty of levels in this enclosure.

The cage is screen mesh, so your dragon should not run into it. We liked that the whole cage is a screen. There is no glass at all. The screen is black and corrosion-resistant.

The front door is rather large and allows you to easily access your lizard. Plus, it makes it easier to get large limbs, rocks, and plants in and out.

#3 Repti Zoo Large Glass Reptile Terrarium – Best Large Cage

Bearded Dragons often get quite large. Therefore, they need a lot of horizontal room. While you can work with a vertical space when necessary, horizontal spaces are often best.

This option is quite large and features a solid background. However, all three other sides are glass. Therefore, if your lizard commonly runs into the glass, this option probably isn’t the best.

We love that this tank is absolutely huge at 120 gallons. Therefore, it is best for large, mature lizards. However, even younger lizards will likely enjoy the larger space.

The top screen is completely removable for easy cleaning. Plus, there are also sliding glass doors on the front.

#4 XYZReptiles Collapsible Reptile Terrarium – Best Travel Cage

You may need to travel with your Bearded Dragon at some point. This tank is completely collapsible, which allows you to store it away when not in use. It is also smaller, allowing you to travel with it more easily. Plus, it features a spot on top of the tank that allows you to directly screw in heat bulbs.

However, because this tank is very small, we cannot recommend it for long-term use. Instead, it works best as a holding tank for temporary use – like when you’re cleaning the main tank.

The front of the tank is glass for easy visibility.

#5 Repti Zoo Double-Hinge Glass Reptile Terrarium – Best Small Cage

Bearded Dragons need quite a bit of room. Therefore, they often need larger tanks. However, this tank may work well for baby dragons – or as a secondary tank for quarantining new animals.

The top screen allows you to use infrared and UVB lights. However, the front doors provide the most practical access point for inside the cage. Therefore, you won’t need to remove the lamps every time you want to access your lizard.

Top and side ventilation ensures that your desert lizard is getting enough airflow.

The bottom is also slightly raised, which allows you to use substrate heaters if you choose (though this is often not done with Bearded Dragons.

Choosing the Best: What to Look For

When selecting a Bearded Dragon cage, there are several things that you need to keep in mind. You should consider the size, price, and ease of use, which we will discuss further below.

Size

Bearded Dragons need quite a bit of room. At a bare minimum, your dragon should be given a 50-gallon tank as an adult. We included a tank this size above for those looking for the minimum option.

However, you may want to increase the size of the tank for very large and active dragons. We included very large tanks above as well so that you can make that choice.

Price

Bearded Dragon tanks can cost anywhere from $50 to $500. It mostly depends on the size of the tank, though there are also other factors involved. We recommend taking a careful look at your budget and then making a decision.

If you’re on a budget, feel free to shop around for the best deal.

Ease of Use

You want the inside of the tank to be pretty easy to access. otherwise, cleaning, setting up the tank, and accessing your dragon can be difficult. Both top-open and front-open cages work well. It is mostly a matter of personal preference.

Verified Review: User Experience

All the tanks we included in our reviews had very positive reviews. People seem to love Repti Zoo tanks, with one person stating “the brand alone is amazing”. We did not find many reviews at all of the tanks being broken upon arrival, so don’t worry about ordering online.

Many users particularly loved the setup of the Repti Zoo Double-Hinge Reptile Cage. One review stated that it “looks really sleek.” It was also easy to set up and seemed to check all of the boxes.

The New Age Pet ECOFLEX Mojave Reptile Lounge also got great reviews. One user stated that it was an “affordable and attractive habitat”. It isn’t too expensive but seems to get the job done.
