A massive 13-foot alligator was caught in Alabama last week, and it weighed in at a whopping 600 pounds. According to the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division, Thursday, August 15 saw a record “23 alligators harvested from the West Central Alligator Management Area.”

It’s legal to hunt alligators in Alabama with a special license, and it’s permitted in five alligator management areas, which can be found here, along with season, bag limit and registration information.
The Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division went on to say on another Facebook post that, “Alligators are managed in such a way that allows people use of the meat, hide, and other parts while maintaining and even encouraging healthy and sustainable populations.”
The biggest capture that took place on August 15 weighed 620 pounds and measured 13 feet, 7 inches and is pictured above. And while that is absolutely a big gator, it falls shy of the largest alligator ever caught in Alabama, which was 15 feet, 9 inches and weight 1,011.5 pounds.
