Chiweenies are small designer breed dogs that are a cross between a chihuahua and a dachshund. If you’re ready to adopt or shop for one, this guide will give you all of the Chiweenie prices and costs in 2024.

How Much Does a Chiweenie Puppy Cost?

It is always better to adopt a Chiweenie from a reputable breeder or from a shelter.

On average, the price for a Chiweenie pup is around $1600 if you get a puppy from a reputable breeder. You can also buy a Chiweenie from a puppy mill, which is $600. However, puppy mills are not high-quality breeders, and they often come with many health issues due to improper care and breeding practices. For example, adult female chihuahuas for dachshunds are forced to breed with males against their will, even if they are sick or unwilling. Consequently, this can lead to unwanted hospital bills and, in some cases, euthanasia if the puppy is too sick.

There is another route to being able to afford a Chiweenie puppy. Adopting a Chiweenie puppy has wonderful benefits that go beyond a cheaper bill. For example, adopting a Chiweenie from a local rescue or shelter gives hope to a dog who lost it after being abandoned. Plus, most rescue pups are already dewormed, neutered, and vaccinated, which can slash the price of your Chiweenie. What’s more, is that rescue pups are prepared for a long and healthy life. Chiweenie rescues cost between $250 to $350.

Other Factors That Influence the Purchase Price of a Chiweenie

A Chiweenie puppy from a reputable breeder can be pricey. However, certain price factors can cause the cost of their puppies to skyrocket. Here are some contributing factors that can make a Chiweenie puppy more expensive.

Breed Quality and Bloodline

Two purebred Chihuahuas and dachshunds can mate and create a high-quality litter of Chiweenies. Due to the pureness of each parent, the puppy’s traits will be better quality, which will influence the price of your puppy.

On the other hand, if you buy a Chiweenie from two Chiweenie parents, the price will go down for the breed due to the chance of crossing traits that are less desired due to the lack of purebred.

Registration

A puppy that has been registered will be more expensive than one who is not. However, be aware that if a Chiweenie is claimed to be registered with the American Kennel Club, do not trust the breeder or rescue. Since a Chiweenie is not a purebred dog, they cannot be registered with the AKC.

Examples of hybrid associates for dogs include:

American Canine Hybrid Club(ACHB)

Designer Dogs Kennel Club(DDKC)

International Designer Canine Registry(IDCR)

Designer Breed Registry(DBR)

Breeder’s Reputation

A breeder that has numerous years of experience raising chiweenies is going to be more costly due to knowledge, clean bills of health for the puppy, and experience. What’s more, is that a breeder who is recognized by associations is more trustworthy than one who is not. Plus, professional breeders will make sure your puppy has the dental care, deworming, vaccinations, tests, and exams needed to ensure a lively quality of life.

Location

If you live in an area where chiweenies are an infamous breed of dog, the cost of demand goes up. Therefore, your Chiweenie puppy will be pricier.

Training

If your pup was unruly, chances are they have received substantial training. Or, the breeder prefers to ensure that their puppies are potty trained before going to their forever home. As a result, the price of your Chiweenie will go up.

Age

An adult Chiweenie will cost you less than a puppy would. Moreover, puppies tend to be in higher demand than adults.

Appearance

Chiweenies that are bred for showing are going to cost more than those that are not. Also, if you fall in love with a pup who has unique markings, this is going to make the cost go up.
