Siberian huskies are wildly loving and affectionate dogs. They’re great with other pups and fantastic around children as well. Their double medium-length coat requires regular grooming. These pups shed a lot but cleaning up after them is a small price to pay for all the love and fun you get in return.
They’re not exactly the best watchdogs because of how indiscriminately friendly they are and their desire for play never stops! Huskies are impressively adaptable, not requiring a steady routine to stay happy and healthy. These pups are also extremely vocal, full of vibrant energy, and they need constant mental stimulation. They are quite stubborn, so training needs to happen ASAP when they’re puppies.
Size and Appearance
You can distinguish a Siberian husky based on several features. These dogs have thick coats, which may be several color combinations, including:
- Black and white
- Black tan and white
- Gray and white
- Sable and white
- Brown and white
- Red and white
- Agouti and white
- All white
- All black
They are medium-sized pups with erect ears and striking almond-shaped eyes that are either blue or brown. These dogs don’t get much bigger than 60 pounds and the males can get as tall as 23.5 inches. Owners love these dogs for a variety of reasons, one of which is how clean they are. The usual stink that goes along with owning a dog is virtually non-existent when you pick a Siberian husky as your companion.
Life History and Temperament
Siberian huskies are from Northeastern Asia, where they were originally bred for two primary reasons — the first is their impressive endurance as sled dogs and the second is their wonderful personalities, which makes them great companions.
The Chukchi people from the area were semi-nomadic and when the climate would shift, they had to keep expanding their living space. To achieve this, they developed a dog that would assist them with the tasks they would be responsible for, which means hauling light loads for long periods in sub-zero temperatures. In the early 1900s, Siberian huskies grew in popularity when they effortlessly won sled races.

Black bears are known for being elusive creatures. Although their curiosity may pull them toward new sights, they don’t stick around for too long. They are omnivores, snacking on both vegetation and fruits, as well as meaty prey like moose calves.
Size and Appearance
Black bears are heavy animals, sometimes making it up to 660 pounds (though the females are significantly smaller). Although their name implies they’re solid black (and most of them are), there are some color variations throughout the world, with some of them more of a cinnamon, brown, or tan color. When they’re standing on all fours, they’re about 3 feet tall, but if they stand on their hind legs, they’re much taller, sometimes reaching up to 7 feet.
Life History and Temperament
It’s been well over three million years since black bears arrived in North America. The modern black bear you recognize today roaming through national parks and remote areas has been around, exploring and snacking ever since. These bears are led by their curiosity, often standing on their tippy toes, scouring the area, and sniffing to understand what kind of wildlife surrounds them. Unlike their grizzly counterparts, black bears don’t display aggression so readily and are significantly more tolerant of human presence. That’s not to say they’re friendly, however. Instead, they are simply indifferent to humans.
Siberian Husky vs. Black Bear: Who Would Win?

In a fight between a Siberian husky and a black bear, a black bear would win. Size alone allows a black bear to overpower a husky. Additionally, a black bear has sharp teeth and sharp claws that can tear through a husky within seconds. Temperaments aside, when it comes down to a fight, a black bear would dominate.
