We’re sure everyone reading this blog post at some time or another has had a dream of a bear, dog, or lion chasing them. However, in real life, any animal chasing you is not as uncommon as one might think.

The average human can run up to eight miles per hour. We know it will be shocking when you learn how fast these water buffalo in the above video run!

Buffalo Running Through Open Field

There are three types of buffalo: cape, water, and American buffalo (commonly referred to as the American bison.) In this hilarious video clip, a couple of water buffalo are in Thailand.

The Utah State Parks shares that “Water buffalo can be found in Europe, Asia, Australia, and South America.” Given the wide landscape they are found in, we may assume they have a plentiful population. However, there are estimated to be less than 4,000 left!

The Newsflare YouTube page posted this video on their channel. This team likes to share their dedication to viral videos and the latest news. Their latest videos are of scuba diving, viral hilarious animal reactions, and the funniest reptiles.

Buddhist Monk Runs For His Life

As the video starts, we see a Buddhist monk decked out in his red garment in an open field.  A Buddhist leaves his worldly possessions and lives a meaningful life of self-reflection. Buddhists are known as “Bhikkhu,” which means beggar. We would often correlate a monk as having no care in the world. However, this monk definitely had care that day when a couple of water buffalo started to chase him!

He quickly realizes these buffalo are a little too close and takes off running. And they start to chase him! These water buffalo can run upwards of 30 miles per hour. So, this monk knew that he didn’t stand a chance. Eventually, he gets away, and the buffalo gives up the chase. They are content that he is gone.

Are Water Buffalo Aggressive?

The water buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is an herbivorous eater that consumes grass, leaves, and aquatic plants. But don’t let this fool you into thinking they can’t cause damage. Water buffalo weigh up to 2,000 pounds and have massive horns that sit on their heads.

According to the National Library of Medicine, injuries sustained by a buffalo’s horns are severe. “They are violent and goring in nature. The wound sustained may be contusions, lacerations, criss-cross wounds, penetration of body cavities, and sometimes fractures.”

Water buffalo attacks are rare. However, the above study does point out that one ramming could be life-threatening. Most likely, in the video posted above, these buffalo just merely wanted this monk off their territory.
