Published · Updated 1 min read

Ladybugs are well-known insects that are most recognized for their distinctive black and red spotted, colorful exoskeletons. There are over 5,000 different species of ladybugs, each with their own unique coloring, size and pattern of spots! Ladybugs can be found crawling amongst leaves, foraging for aphids, in meadows, farms, forests, gardens, grasslands and even your very own backyard.

Ladybugs generally oval shaped with domed backs and flattened undersides.Females tend to be larger than males.

In our ladybug unit plan, students will explore more about the physical features of ladybugs, what makes them insects, what they eat, where they live, types of ladybugs and even defense mechanisms that ladybugs utilize to protect themselves from danger. Included in the unit plan are five days’ worth of highly engaging, comprehensive daily lesson plans, printable instructional resources, graphic organizers, writing prompts, vocabulary activities, comprehension questions and more!
