Some sports are highly competitive. Others are challenging. Overall, there are so many varieties of sports that make them interesting.

When looking at the 10 sports that start with T, we take a look at their popularity and where they are played. We will look at where they came from by exploring some history.

10. Table Tennis

You have to go back to the United Kingdom to see the origins of table tennis. British officers also brought the game to India in the 1860s. It is a sport that requires quick thinking and good hand-eye coordination. It is also an Olympic Sport. Ultimately, it is one of the sports that start with T that anyone can play.

Martial arts have been around for centuries. But taekwondo had its likely start in the 19th century as a folk sport. It started becoming bigger as the decades went on. People first started participating in taekwondo in Korea.

There are five different types of taekwondo competitions. The types of competitions are kyorugi, poomsae, and kyukpa. You can find a taekwondo competition near you as they are held in many locations around the world.

Tennis is a sport that started in the United Kingdom around the 19th century officially. But many believe the sport first started in France. You can play it with anyone. There are singles and doubles competitions. Ultimately, the goal of the game is to get four points in succession. But the scoring goes by 15, 30, 40 and game-point.

Wimbledon is one of the oldest and most popular championships in tennis. It determines who the best in the world is at singles and doubles competitions.

No one knows how far back track and field goes. But many probably agree it is one of the oldest sports in history. There are recorded accounts of track and field happening at the Panhellenic Games in Ancient Greece. It is one of the sports that start with T that goes back centuries.

It is also the oldest of the sports at the Olympic Games. Every four years, people come out in droves to see who wins this competition.

6. Tug of War

The classic tug of war is the ultimate test of strength, showcasing who has the better hold and pull among numerous people on either side of the rope.

This is another sport where no one knows the true origins. Some believe it came from Ancient Greece, and others think it possibly came from China or India. Tug of war requires the same amount of people to be on one side of a rope and pull. The goal is to pull the other side to your side to showcase your strength.

It used to be in the Olympics. But it is no longer included. Still, there are various competitions held throughout the globe. It was also part of the World Games in 2022. It is one of the sports that start with T that is fun to play and can be played in grass, mud or dirt.

USA Gymnastics puts a stamp on trampolining on their website. The sport has been in the Olympics since 2000. It is a sport that focuses on individual accomplishments. The focus is to showcase your ability to launch your body off a trampoline and deliver an excellent trick.

George Nissen was the creator of the trampoline in the 1930s. Then, he started to do tricks on them to entertain crowds as a marketing strategy. It paid off and soon exploded into something more. Trampoline gymnastics is one of the more popular sports that start with T and one that never ceases to amaze people.

4. Track Cycling

The best way to win a track cycling contest is to have perfect balance and speed. There is always a chance you might make a mistake. Likewise, you don’t want to collide with another biker or lose your footing or speed. Track cycling requires intense concentration and features some of the best athletes in the world. It has also been an Olympic sport.

Track cycling has been around since 1870. The velodromes were similar to what competitions use today. The bikes were slightly different. But the competitions were just as intense. Subsequently, it is one of the sports that start with T that continues to thrill people to this day.

3. Triathlon

Triathlons have been around for centuries. There is no official knowledge of when it started. However, the first official event took place in 1901.

A triathlon involves swimming, cycling, and running. It starts with swimming because it is likely the toughest stage. Getting across the water requires you to use upper-body strength to push yourself forward. After you are done swimming, you get on a bike and start pedaling. By the time you are done pedaling, it is time to run. There are different variations of triathlons across the world. Yet, the basic concepts are the same. It is one of the more intense sports that start with T.

If you are playing table football, you are using all the motions of your hands to try and get the ball into the goal past your opponent’s net. It also does not require you to move your legs at all. No, it is a sport you can play indoors. Many do. It is probably one of the most popular bar games out there. Moreover, it is also a good household item.

Table football came from the brilliant mind of Harold Searles Thornton. He wanted to craft a game that was the ultimate table football match. The game came over to America soon after and adopted the name foosball, which many know it by.

The International Table Soccer Federation hosts table football tournaments. You can play singles (1 on 1) or doubles (2 on 2). They are also split into categories.
