Best Ojai Swimming Holes for Californians This Summer
1. Punch Bowls
Punchbowls is located near Ojai in Santa Paula, California. Here, you can find a couple of swimming holes. This location does require a hike, however. You can start at the Big Cone Campgrounds and make your way to the swimming holes, which require a 3.5-mile hike. Once you arrive, you’re greeted by a 25-foot waterfall and some natural slides you can experience. Some are faster than others, so you must be careful and know where the slides end to ensure your safety and maximize your enjoyment.

2. Matilija Falls
Located in the Los Padres National Forest, Matilija Falls is a gorgeous destination that requires a nine-mile hike. Although you could certainly get it done in one day, most prefer to camp out at the free campgrounds to really take in the scenery. Around the waterfall, there are some sandstone formations that’ll make you want to stop and bliss out. Behind the falls, you’ll find a small cave and throughout the area, you can enjoy the pools. Don’t forget to take plenty of water as this hike may be considered difficult for some.

3. Foster Park
Foster Park is located along the Ventura River and offers tent sites and RV sites. There are picnic tables, and the environment is pet-friendly. Those who have visited note that the river is one of the cleanest they’ve had a chance to enjoy. It’s a fantastic area for having a picnic and enjoying a swim in the river. One suggestion from frequent visitors is to wear water shoes as the rocks can be quite slippery. During the weekends, this area does get busy with many people enjoying parties, grilling, and drinking, as alcohol use is allowed.

4. Lake Casitas Water Park
Lake Casitas itself is not swimmable because it serves as a drinking water supply. However, there is Lake Casitas Water Adventure, which is a water park that you can check out during the summer. It’s open during the weekdays and weekends and features a lazy river, an aquatic play structure, several waterfalls, and lifeguards to ensure the safety of your family. There’s a splash pad and a lagoon as well! You can get some inner tubes while there (for free) so long as they’re available. Plus, request life jackets to keep little ones safe. You can also rent covered areas to stay out of the sun and to save, there are group discounts available.
