Sometimes, our eagerness gets the best of us. In the case of this lion in the video posted just above, his hunger got the best of him. And he attempts to go after a buffalo that’s just a bit too big to take down on his own. Don’t miss the thrilling action!

Lion and Buffalo Sighting in Africa

The video at the top of this blog post takes us to Africa. The Incredible Wild Animals Sighting YouTube page posted this video just a week ago. This channel has 218,000 dedicated subscribers who enjoy videos of animals such as elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, warthogs, and zebras.

As the video starts, we see that a safari tour stops along the way. They saw a buffalo in the distance. But, what captured their eye was the approaching lion to the side of the vehicle. At first, it’s as if the lion doesn’t see the buffalo. He is very interested in what this safari tour is doing.

But suddenly, the buffalo starts walking toward the lion. Perhaps to scare the lion away with his size. He knows that he cannot outrun this lion. Buffalo can run up to 20 or so miles per hour. Lions can run up to bursts of 50 miles per hour. This buffalo knows that it has no chance of running from the lion. And so he decided to confront this predator head-on.

The lion pounces and attempts to take this beast down. But, as we can assume, trying to take down an animal literally four times the size of this lion is difficult. Male bull buffaloes can get up to 2,000 pounds. And male lions can reach up to 550 pounds.

As shown in the video above, this buffalo will not go down without a fight. According to the African Wildlife Report, “Cape buffalos will not give up without a fight and will even kill lions if they get the chance.”

Can Any Animal Take Down a Lion?

Lions are fierce apex predators in the wild animal kingdom. However, they are not all-powerful. They are susceptible to being hunted down and killed, just as every other animal is. According to Kruger National Park, lions have been killed by giraffes, buffalo, kudu, snakes, and even porcupines.

As we can see from this list, size is a massive factor in a lion being able to be taken down. We see this from the giraffe, the tallest land animal. And the buffalo is easily four times larger than the lion, as we saw in the video above.

However, size isn’t always the factor. Kudu are typically the same size or smaller than male lions. And we know that porcupines are much smaller than lions, weighing approximately 35 pounds

Nevertheless, sometimes we feel the title of king of the jungle has gotten to their heads a little too much. We see this with the lion in the video above trying to take down this buffalo on his own without the help of his pride.
