When it comes to visiting one of your favorite chain outdoor stores, Cabela’s, you’ll be happy to know that you can bring along your pup when visiting their stores. In most cases, dogs are allowed in Cabela’s. The store’s policies are pet-friendly and you are welcome to bring your furry family members into the store.

Pet-Friendly Policies

According to Cabela’s, their stores are “pet-friendly.” This means that you can bring your dog into the store. Some stores take this policy a step further and provide kennel space for your dog to enjoy while you shop. Kennels are not available in all stores so make sure to call ahead if you are visiting a new store and planning to use the kennel space. Cabela’s is owned by the same company as Bass Pro Shops. The two major retailers merged in 2017 and share the same policies.

If you bring your dog to Cabela’s, it must be leashed at all times. Your dog also needs to be housebroken and well-behaved. If your dog is out of control or becomes a danger to other patrons or animals, you might be asked to leave to keep everyone safe.

Follow Local Regulations

If local regulations prohibit dogs in stores, however, Cabela’s is required to follow and enforce these rules. These could be city ordinances or policies specific to a shopping center where Cabela’s is located. In these cases, the store will post the regulations for pets. You can also call the store ahead of time to check.

When taking care of a new puppy, be aware of its training and behavior before bringing your new dog to Cabela’s or any other pet-friendly store. This can be a great way to teach your puppy how to act and get them comfortable around people or other dogs. But if they aren’t housebroken or get excited by the new experience, you might find yourself cleaning up a mess. In some cases, it might be better to wait to bring them to the store until they are a bit older.

Service Animal Exception

All Cabela’s stores allow service animals regardless of other regulations about pets. Keep in mind that service animals are required to go through training and be designated as service animals. The laws protecting the rights of individuals requiring assistance from a service animal are governed at the state and national levels and protected through the Americans with Disabilities Act. According to these laws, only dogs can be designated as service animals. Under these laws, stores are required to allow the use of service animals regardless of any other pet policies. Cabela’s and Bass Pro both follow this law. You must keep your service animal on a leash or tether unless the specific disability makes this impossible.
