National Pomeranian Day doesn’t seem to exist, but National Dog Day is celebrated on August 26th. National Dog Day aims to commemorate both pure-bred and mixed dogs. It’s also a way to raise awareness for suffering dogs.

Colleen Paige — a dog trainer and animal rescue advocate — founded National Dog Day in 2004. She created the holiday to bring awareness to dogs and animal rescue. She also created National Puppy Day, National Cat Day, National Mutt Day, and National Wildlife Day.

You can also learn about National Rescue Dog Day.

National Dog Day became an official part of New York State legislation in 2013.

August 26th is significant for Colleen because it’s the date she adopted her first dog when she was ten years old.

Colleen’s hope for National Dog Day is that people will realize how many dogs need rescuing. She also hopes they see how much work goes into helping needy dogs.

She wishes everyone to see the value dogs provide to our lives daily. Some dogs risk their lives saving humans. Others’ most important task is being their owner’s best friend. Either way, every dog is equally important.

National Dog Day is the perfect time to celebrate your favorite Pomeranian companion or adopt a new one.

Ways to Celebrate Pomeranians on National Dog Day

Pomeranian Puppies

National Dog Day is a great time to celebrate your Pomeranian.

You can celebrate your favorite pup on National Dog Day in many ways, whether they are a Pomeranian or another breed.

1. Adopt a Pomeranian

What better way to celebrate Pomeranians on National Dog Day than to adopt one? Finding a pure-bred Pomeranian from a breeder might be easier. But think of the good you can do by adopting one from a rescue.

Need help figuring out where to start? Check out some of the rescues below:

2. Volunteer at a Pomeranian Rescue

If you can’t adopt a dog right now, consider volunteering at a Pomeranian rescue instead. Rescues are always grateful for help with walks, cuddling, and kennel cleanings. Who knows, maybe you’ll even love it so much that you’ll want to begin volunteering regularly.

3. Donate to a Pomeranian Rescue

Maybe you don’t have time to volunteer. That’s okay — consider donating to a Pomeranian rescue instead. You can donate money or items that rescues can use for their dogs.

Here are some of the things rescues often need most:

  • Unopened dog food
  • Towels
  • Blankets
  • Durable dog toys
  • Nylabones
  • Kongs

4. Host a Doggy Party

If you already have a Pomeranian, a great way to celebrate National Dog Day is to hold a doggy party. Invite your dog’s favorite human and dog friends and get the party started. Bake dog-safe treats or cake, set up a kiddie pool or splash pad, and have many toys.

5. Make a Pawprint Painting with your Pomeranian

You can use some non-toxic paint and your dog’s toe beans to create unique artwork.

Download a template to create pawprint flowers, or wing it and make an abstract painting.

Use a soft paintbrush to paint your dog’s paws with washable, non-toxic paint in your favorite color. Gently lift your dog’s paw and place it on the paper or canvas. Then, wash your dog’s paw(s) with a damp washcloth or dog-safe cleaning wipes.

Only try this activity if your dog is comfortable having their paws handled. Always reward them afterward with lots of love and treats.

6. Buy your Pomeranian some Treats or Toys

Take your Pomeranian to your local pet store and treat them to their favorite toy or treats. Make the event more enjoyable by letting them pick out what they want.

7. Give your Dog a Spa Day

Pamper your pet by giving them a luxurious spa day that’s all about them. Spend lots of time brushing them and making their fur clean and shiny. You can also give them a gentle and soothing massage.

8. Have a Photo Shoot

Dress your Pomeranian in their favorite outfit and take them to a scenic location. Spend time posing them and having a fun photoshoot that you’ll remember forever. Remember to reward them with lots of love and treats.

9. Teach your Pomeranian a New Trick or Game

Dogs love mental stimulation, so teach them a new game or trick. They’ll enjoy using their thinking caps and be happy you’re pleased with them.

10. Take your Pomeranian on a Trip

Take your Pomeranian to their favorite spot or somewhere new. Go for a car ride, a hike, or to the beach.
