The 7 Best Dog Parks in Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem is located in North Carolina. You’ve probably heard of it as the city that hosts the Wells Fargo Center, the tallest office building in the area. You might also know it as “The Twin City,” which refers to its heritage. Another name for it is “The Camel City,” which points to the fact that it was historically involved in the tobacco industry.

Whether you live in Winston-Salem or just visiting, you’re probably wondering if there are any fun places to take your dog. There are plenty, of course! To make it easier, we’ve selected the 7 best dog parks in Winston-Salem. All you’ve got to do now is check the list below and choose the one you like the most!

Each park has its own rules regarding pets. Some of them may require a dog license and a rabies vaccination. After choosing the park that best suits your preferences, please check with the park’s administration to ensure you’re all set for a pleasant evening out!

1. Shaffner Park

If you want to spend a quiet and enjoyable evening in a natural open space, Shaffner Park could be a perfect choice. It’s an excellent destination if you and your pup just want to go out for a walk on the paved walking trail that opens up beautiful natural views. If you have kids, they’ll appreciate a few hours at Shaffner Park. There’s a fantastic playground with various play facilities that even older kids can enjoy. 

Even if Shaffner Park doesn’t have a designated fenced area for dogs, your puppy will still love walking beside you or even a short jog session on the walking trail! Just make sure to keep your dog on a leash. 

2. Miller Park

Miller Park is one of the most popular among locals and visitors! If you enjoy long walks or jogging sessions and your dog is happy to accompany you, you’ll love it there! 

Miller Park offers multiple walking trails with peaceful and scenic natural views. There are lots of benches and shelters in case you and your pup need to take a break and enjoy some snacks. You’ll also find large open spaces where you and your family can play frisbee. Other recreational activities at Miller Park include playing baseball, picnicking, and even working out.

3. Jamison Dog Park

Jamison Dog Park will become your pup’s favorite! We’ve heard it usually hosts lovely dogs and their owners, who can become amazing new friends! Jamison Dog Park features two areas for small and big dogs, so if you have a small pup, you can rest assured that it will be safe. 

We don’t recommend visiting the park during hot summer days because the few trees result in almost no shaded areas. Another thing to consider if you’re visiting after rainfall or during winter is that big dogs may use the small dog area. That’s because a part of the big dogs’ area becomes a bit muddy. 

4. Bolton Park

Bolton Park can become your favorite place for a quiet evening with your family, friends, and pets! There’s a lot of space for your pup to run around and play. We’re sure your puppy will love it there, even though there isn’t a designated dog area. 

The park has recreational facilities such as walking trails, picnic areas, fitness areas, tennis courts, and playgrounds. There are many bathrooms too if you plan to spend a whole day there. Just don’t forget to bring some snacks and some of your puppy’s favorite toys!

5. Washington Dog Park

The Washington Dog Park features two separate fenced areas for small and large dogs to run around and play with other dogs. The park has plenty of shade, so it’s an excellent place to spend a hot afternoon. However, this dog park is a bit crowded, so if your puppy is shy, you might consider another option. But if your dog is used to meeting other pups and socializing with them, don’t hesitate to visit Washington Dog Park! 

Take some of your dog’s favorite toys and prepare for an entertaining evening! Don’t bother bringing water for your dog because there’s plenty in the park!

We don’t recommend visiting Washington Dog Park after a rainfall because it can get quite muddy.

6. Bailey Park

Bailey Park is a favorite among locals! Many activities and events are organized in the park, such as movie nights or concerts. And you can take your puppy along, isn’t that great?! Take a blanket, some of your dog’s toys, and some tasty snacks, and enjoy an evening out with your furry date! 

Moreover, there are lots of restaurants nearby, so you can choose one for a take-out for lunch or dinner with your pooch on the blanket. Now that’s an amazingly spent day, isn’t it?

7. Happy Hounds Dog Park at Horizons Park

Suppose you’re up for a more extended trip. If so, you should check out Happy Hounds Dog Park, which is right outside Winston-Salem in Germanton, North Carolina. It’s a 2.65-acre dog park and features two separate areas for small and large dogs. If your pup weighs less than 25 pounds, it will enjoy the small 0.40-acre area. The large area measures 2.25 acres.

You don’t have to bring water because there are lots of water fountains for you and your furry best friend. After playing with your pet, you can take a break on the benches for dog owners. We advise you to check the park’s rules here to avoid inconveniences during your trip.
