This black bear is the master of disguise. Not only does he blend in perfectly in between those two rocks. He also blends in so perfectly that the fish didn’t even know he was there until it was too late.

Black Bear and Salmon Sighting

The next short YouTube video clip shown at the top of this blog post shares footage of a black bear at a fish stream. This video was filmed and shared by the Taylor Thomas Albright YouTube page. This channel shares a variety of videos of animals, such as brown bears, black bears, buffalo, and whales, to name a few. Albright shares a short description of what he does below.

“I take photos and videos. Share stories about the outdoors, adventure, wildlife, and the gear that makes it all possible!”

Black Bear Vs. Salmon

Anytime we see a bear versus anything, we probably may always assume that the bear will come out victorious. After all, he is a skilled hunter and an even better fisherman, or should we rather say fisher-bear? Yes, okay, the pun was intended there.

At the start of this video clip, we see a massive black bear down by a creek bed. Notice how he is lying in wait where the stream is going down. He knows that it’s only a matter of time before he will see a fish or two going downstream. The amount of patience that he has is nothing short of inspiring. We often can get very impatient in life, even for those who are hunting and fishing. And this black bear is teaching us that patience is the key to a successful catch.

Suddenly, his sharp eyes detect something deep, and in a matter of a second, he digs his head into the water and comes up victorious with a salmon in his mouth.

Just imagine for a moment if you were that salmon. Just floating downstream and minding your own business and suddenly getting snatched by a bear!

How Many Salmon Are There?

Salmon can weigh up to 20 pounds.

Salmon (Salmonidae) of the order Salmoniformes can be found in North America and South America. There is no exact number on how many salmon are alive. However, the number is estimated to be in the billions. Their conservation status is considered to be of the least concern.

Within the United States, pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) are most populous in Alaska. According to the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, “The average annual Alaska harvest between 1959 and 1992 was 45.1 million pink salmon. Annual statewide commercial harvests have been around 100 million pink salmon since about 1990.”
