Endangered species are animals that are at risk of disappearing forever, typically animals with dangerously low population numbers, shrinking habitats and a loss of geographic range. There are animals around the world that are currently at risk for extinction due to a number of factors that continue to threaten the balance of our ecosystem. Habitat destruction, changing weather patterns, poaching, pollution, disease, and invasive species are all contributing to the decline of wildlife.

In our “Endangered Animals Unit Study”, students will discover what it means to be at risk for extinction and various species that are currently endangered, such as the mountain gorilla, red panda, monarch butterfly and blue whale. Included in the unit plan are five-days worth of comprehensive lesson plans, non-fiction children’s book ideas, graphic organizers, comprehension questions, writing prompts, and engaging activity worksheets. Young learners will also explore how humans can play a vital role in the protection of our natural world and the animals that inhabit it!
