Scottish terriers are small dogs weighing up to 22 pounds and reaching only 10 inches at the shoulder. They are easily recognized by their short legs, beards, and wiry topcoats. “Scotties,” as they are affectionately called, are confident and independent with strong hunting instincts. They are high-spirited and playful, and they make excellent watchdogs. Scottish terriers are also affectionate with their families and full of personality.
