It’s hard to deny the cuteness that is a Cockapoo. A combination of two adorable breeds: a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, a Cockapoo practically resembles a fluffy teddy bear. Although these little pups are known as “designer dogs,” many people with pet allergies adopt this breed.

The cockapoo is a great choice if you want a family dog that is welcoming and gets along with just about everyone. This mixed-breed dog is as close to being hypoallergenic as you can get and is renowned for its friendly disposition.

What Makes a Dog Hypoallergenic?

Pet allergies are incredibly common in the U.S. Three out of 10 people are thought to be allergic to pets such as cats and dogs.  The majority of allergies originate from proteins that are present in canine or feline saliva or skin flakes in their fur.

This is what we know as dander. To make way for new, healthy fur, the body sheds its old skin cells and unhealthy fur. Scattered out on carpet, furniture, and clothing, then dispersed into the air, pet dander can cause allergy symptoms like sneezing, hives, and burning eyes.

For animal lovers who also suffer from pet allergies, hypoallergenic dogs provide a way for them to have a furry friend, without suffering from allergies. These breeds of dogs are thought to be more suitable for allergy sufferers because of their size and coats.

Due to their size, several hypoallergenic dog breeds shed less dander. The dander that triggers allergies remains on the fur instead of circulating through the air since they also tend to shed very little.

Although there isn’t a dog or cat breed that is completely hypoallergenic, certain breeds are more likely to keep allergies at bay.

How Are Cockapoos Hypoallergenic?

It’s crucial to keep in mind that all cockapoos are unique. There aren’t any completely hypoallergenic dogs. But cockapoos differ from other dogs in that they frequently get along with allergy sufferers thanks to their curly hair and fleece-like fur they got from the poodle half of their genetics.

Due to the weight and downward pressure of straight dog hair, there occurs shedding. However, curly hairs tend to stick together and stay on the coat. As a result, cockapoo dogs typically shed considerably less than the typical dog.

Cockapoo Personality Traits

Without its endearing personality, the cockapoo’s appeal wouldn’t have ever grown. This breed is not only incredibly affectionate and sociable, but it is also very smart and easy to train.

Cockapoos are wonderful friends because they are eager to snuggle on the sofa or go for walks with you, which is something dog owners will swiftly discover about their furry friend. Due to their intermediate activity levels, cockapoos are both active and content to unwind indoors.

They are ideal for families who enjoy being active, yet still enjoy relaxing time indoors. The majority of cockapoo enthusiasts think that their dogs are generally well-behaved and rightfully so.

These pups are excellent therapy dogs for seniors and those with disabilities due to their capacity for adjusting to new situations and their enthusiasm to pick up new skills.

How to Prevent Pet Allergy Attacks

If you suffer from dog allergies, there are things you can do in addition to adopting a hypoallergenic pet. Take a look at some of our top tips for handling your allergies while loving on a furry friend!

Grooming Your Cockapoo

Cleaning your dog can be beneficial. By eliminating dander and stray fur, frequent pet washing with mild shampoo and warm water can help lower the number of allergens in the air. It’s important not to over-bathe your canine, as it can dry out their skin.

To prevent hair from getting all over your home, groom your dog every day. Think about asking a family member who isn’t allergic to do this if you’re the one who’s allergic. Some products can help by eliminating dander and other causes of allergens including dried pee and saliva.

These things can be used on the animal’s coat following brushing. Pets are not harmed, and no residue is left on clothes or furniture.

Keep a Pet-Free Zone

It’s in your best interest to keep an area of your home free from your pet. Ideally, this would be your bedroom. The last thing you want is to be trying to fall asleep, sneezing up a storm due to dog hair, and dander all over your bedding!

If you do want your pooch to share your bed, perhaps give them their bed or blanket to help keep the allergens in one place. Wash any blankets or linens that the dog sleeps on regularly.

Bottom Line

Cockapoos are precious, smart, and kind animals that are a great breed for people with pet allergies. Their calm demeanor makes them ideal for pet parents of all ages. Because they’re small, you can easily give them enough space, even if you live in an apartment. Consider the additional methods to keep allergies at bay, even if you own a hypoallergenic pet breed.
