True hypoallergenic dogs do not exist; rather, there are breeds that provoke less of an immune response. There are people who are allergic to every dog breed, therefore they can’t bring one into their home. If you suffer from allergies yet are set on getting a dog of a certain breed, you should spend as much time as possible around that breed and that dog to learn what triggers your allergies. This might make is you wonder if Samoyeds are hypoallergenic.

Even if you brush, groom, and bathe your Samoyed every day, you still won’t be able to keep their coats completely free of dander and debris. Thus while some dog-allergy sufferers may feel at ease in the company of a Samoyed, others may still experience a reaction.

What Does “Hypoallergenic” Mean?

A hypoallergenic dog is one that produces little or no allergy reactions in people. To be considered hypoallergenic, a dog’s fur must not shed. Because the hair doesn’t shed, there won’t be any dander in the air from your pet’s skin. Apparently, dog allergies aren’t as widespread as one might think. Those with pet allergies are typically allergic to the animal’s dander.

Any allergy sufferer looking for a dog should look no further than the Samoyed. They shed, but this breed doesn’t leave behind any scents or dander. Therefore, Samoyeds are hypoallergenic.

How To Minimize Allergies Caused by Your Samoyeds

If you have recently adopted a Samoyeds and are suffering from allergy problems, you can take steps to reduce allergens in your dog and the environment. You can help reduce the allergy symptoms you’re experiencing by following these steps:

Canine Maintenance

A dog needs regular brushing to stay clean and healthy. Brushing your dog frequently will keep his coat free of dander. If you brush your dog frequently, the oils in his hair will spread throughout your home, making it less allergenic for you and your family. Hence, dandruff can be more effectively managed over time with consistent brushing. If you or a member of your household is allergic to dogs, you should have someone else brush the dog. Your Samoyed will enjoy being brushed, petted, and played with more in the open air.

At the very least to help keep your Samoyeds hypoallergenic, give your dog a bath twice per month. Choose a shampoo that will help stop additional hair loss and a cleanser that won’t bother their skin.

Household Maintenance

  • Prioritize handwashing. Hand washing, especially after interacting with your Samoyeds, can help reduce the risk of developing an allergy.
  • Regular cleaning reduces dog dander. To clean, change the sheets once a week, dust once a day, and vacuum once a week.
  • Avoid “dry cleaning” (such as brooms and dusters) to keep allergens from being re-agitated on your home’s surfaces. Use moist towels or statically charged cleaning tools like a Swiffer to get rid of allergens in the air. Invest in a high-quality HEPA-filtered model to keep your allergies at bay.
  • No dogs in the bedroom. You may need to keep your dog or dogs out of your bedroom if you suffer from severe allergies. A HEPA air cleaner is recommended by the Humane Society for those who want an allergy-free bedroom. Frequent filter changes are recommended.
  • Replace the carpet with hardwood. There are several allergens that carpets accumulate and store. Allergy sufferers can breathe comfortably on tile, bamboo, or linoleum floors. Hard flooring is great for renovations if you can afford to replace it.

Does Consistent Grooming Help With Allergies?

Regular trips to the groomer are necessary for all breeds, including Samoyeds. This will make it so you have less of a chance of having an allergic reaction to your pet. Some families prefer to take care of their canine’s grooming needs at home rather than at a professional salon. Dog fur contains a wide variety of allergens, not just dandruff (dead skin particles). It’s also possible that your dog’s saliva and/or urine contain allergies. Your Samoyed’s ability to cause allergies is only somewhat correlated with the texture and length of its hair.

You May Want to Talk to an Allergist

Allergists should be consulted if the aforementioned measures fail to alleviate symptoms. Samoyeds are worthy of your undivided love and affection. An allergist may be of great assistance in continuing to care for your dog in two ways: 1) by pinpointing the precise cause of your allergies, and 2) by suggesting treatments that are specifically suited to your needs.

It’s likely that there are other allergens in your home besides your Samoyed. One might avoid many allergens, including pet dander if one knew the cause of their allergy. If you can get rid of the allergens in your home, you may find that your symptoms greatly improve. Medication is available, and a doctor who specializes in treating allergies can provide it.

The American Kennel Club has recognized several hypoallergenic dog breeds, although no dog is completely immune to causing allergic reactions in some people. Some of these breeds include American Hairless Terrier, Bichon Frise, Maltese, Miniature Schnauzer, Poodle, and Standard Schnauzer.
