Competitor #1: The Bobcat

As stealthy hunters, bobcats can take out their prey with a single, well-placed strike.

Introducing competitor number one, the bobcat. Bobcats are stealthy hunters who can take out prey with one bite! These carnivorous cats love dining on small mammals such as squirrels, moles, rabbits, and mice.

Bobcats use their razor-sharp teeth to tear into the flesh of their prey with ease. If the bobcat can bite down on the coyote’s neck, this fight might be over before it begins.

Competitor #2: The Coyote

Coyotes generally focus on small prey, but they target larger prey on occasion.

Introducing competitor number 2, the coyote. These canines usually target smaller prey like birds, rodents, and fish. But when food sources are scarce larger prey is on the menu.

When coyotes take down large prey like deer, their first goal is to disembowel the animal. After the abdomen bust open, the prey goes into shock, but it doesn’t die. If the bobcat can’t defend itself, the coyote could literally eat them alive!

Animal Showdown: Key Factors in a Bobcat vs. Coyote Battle

Both competitors are ready to fight! On one side of the ring, we have the agile bobcat, and on the other, the speedy coyote. Who will be crowned the champion in this bobcat vs. coyote battle?

There will be three rounds of fighting. In each round, the fighters will have to put their skills to the test. The few key factors that will determine who the champion is are size, speed, attack abilities, defensibilities, intelligence, and survival skills.

Round 1: Size and Speed

As the larger and faster animal, coyotes win round one.

Round one is all about size and speed. Things don’t start in the bobcat’s favor. This feline fighter is slightly smaller than the coyote.

An average bobcat will be 2 to 3 feet in length, have a height at the shoulder of one and a half to 2 feet, and weigh between 20 to 35 pounds. In comparison, the average coyote is 3 to 4 feet long, has a shoulder height of 2 feet, and weighs 20 to 50 pounds.

The coyote wins in the speed department too. While bobcats can run 30 mph, coyotes can reach speeds all the way up to 43 mph. The coyote wins round one with its larger size and impressive speed.

Round 2: Attack and Defense

In terms of attack and defense capabilities, the bobcat wins through its ability to climb trees.

Round two compares the bobcat and coyote’s attack and defense abilities. Both animals are highly efficient hunters, and they know a thing or two about the element of surprise!

Bobcats are ambush predators. Similar to jaguars, they’ll wait high up in trees to pounce on unsuspecting prey. When a bobcat attacks, it usually bites its prey with an estimated bite force of 548 newtons.

Even though they’re powerful, these felines are always looking out for threats. If predators attack, bobcats can defend themselves with their sharp teeth and retractable claws. They can also scale a tree for safety.

Coyotes are also ambush predators that will stock small prey. They usually don’t go after larger prey like deer unless they work in a pack. Once they get a hold of their prey, the canine will bite, shake, and release it.

These canines are good at protecting themselves too. If a coyote senses a threat, it’ll flee the scene and hide anywhere there’s cover.

Both competitors have impressive attack and defense abilities. So who will come out on top in this round? The bobcat wins round two thanks to their expert tree-climbing skills.

Round 3: Intelligence and Survival Skills

When put to the test, a coyote’s intelligence and survival skills will outmatch a bobcat’s.

Round three is our final round, putting the animal’s intelligence and survival skills to the test. Coyotes and bobcats are both intelligent animals. However, there’s an argument to be made that coyotes might be slightly smarter. These canines have learned how to survive in all sorts of situations.

The bobcat might become disoriented if this battle took place on a busy city street. In California, studies show coyotes are better at adapting to city life than bobcats.

The coyote’s intelligence and adaptability put them slightly ahead of the bobcat. The coyote wins round three because of their thinking skills and adaptability.

Who Would Win in a Fight Between a Bobcat vs. Coyote?

Bobcat vs. Coyote
Based on each species’ individual strengths and weaknesses, the coyote would most likely emerge as the victor in this battle.

A coyote would win in a fight against a bobcat. Coyotes are slightly larger and faster. If the bobcat could ambush the coyote, they’d stand a chance of beating them. But if the fight began with the two animals face to face in a city setting, the coyote would come out on top.

The feline competitor wouldn’t go down easily though! A bobcat vs. coyote battle would definitely be an intense fight. The coyote would walk away with its life and some pretty serious battle wounds.
