Explore a Salmon’s Journey in This Free Downloadable Lesson Plan

Salmon, a tenacious, ecologically significant fish, is most renowned for its incredible migratory journey from freshwater rivers to the ocean and back again. Their unique, remarkable cycle of life requires not only determination and grit to travel hundreds of miles upstream facing predators along the way, but also an extraordinary sense of smell, magnetic sense and memory.

In our comprehensive unit study designed for elementary-aged children, students will discover the physical features of salmon, what they eat, and how their diets change depending on their habitat, their migratory adventures, and various species of salmon. Included in the unit plan are five days’ worth of engaging daily lesson plans, instructional materials, activity worksheets, graphic organizers, writing prompts, vocabulary activities, are more.
