Across the globe, a small number of animal species are now so rare that only a few individuals remain in the wild. Habitat loss, climate change, poaching, and human activity have pushed these animals to the edge, placing them on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s critically endangered list.

In this video, we introduce 10 of the rarest critically endangered animals on Earth. Each species faces unique challenges that threaten its survival, from shrinking ecosystems to limited genetic diversity. Some are found only in isolated regions, while others once ranged widely before their populations collapsed.

Understanding which animals are most at risk helps highlight the fragile balance of ecosystems around the world. This video takes a closer look at these rare species, where they live, and why their numbers have declined so dramatically.
