Experts and pest control companies have warned New Yorkers that Joro spiders will be invading the New York area pretty soon. Joro spiders are native to Asia but were brought to the northern parts of Georgia around 2010. Since then Joro spiders have spread across the eastern United States from the southern states of Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi to as far north as Ohio and West Virginia. Slowly but surely these spiders have started to crawl up North.
These spiders aren’t hard to miss because they can have a leg span of a whopping four inches. They are also a bright yellow color with gray horizontal lines. Joro spiders are also quite comfortable in a city environment. They are most often seen on street lamps and even telephone poles. Because Joro spiders aren’t afraid of being seen, like other spiders are, this spider invasion is concerning to local pest controls and scientists, as well. Scientists have also concluded that Joro spiders like the eastern seaboard environment very well. These creatures most likely will not be going away anytime soon.
The good news is that although the spiders are venomous, they have not killed humans. They are not dangerous to them in any sort of way. Experts state that Joro spiders will be popping up in New York and the surrounding states by summer, if not sooner.

Joro Spiders hail from Asia and they are mainly found in countries like Japan, Taiwan, China, and the Korean peninsula. They are massive spiders that can lay up to 1,500 eggs on their web after mating. Most recently, the Joro Spider was brought to the United States and can now be found in the eastern part of the country.
What Do Joro Spiders Normally Eat?
The Joro Spider diet consists of insects from flies and mosquitoes, to stink bugs. They are also known to eat butterflies if they get caught up in their web. In turn, these spiders have become a good diet source for birds.
Are Joro Spiders Dangerous To Humans?
Joro Spiders are venomous creatures. Their toxins can kill other creatures, as well. However, their venom is reserved for those insects that fly too close to their webs. They also use their venom for potential food. Other than that, scientists have determined that Joro Spiders are not dangerous to humans or even large pets like cats and dogs.
