The centrally located country of the Czech Republic is also one of the cheapest countries to visit in Europe! Another one of the cheapest countries in Europe is Romania. Located in Western Europe, Romania appears on almost every list of affordable travel spots in Europe. You can expect to pay under $10 a night for a hostel or hotel and grab a meal for around $4. However, be aware that Romania doesn’t use the Euro, so you must convert your Euros to the local currency!

5. Montenegro

The beautiful country of Montenegro is another one of the most affordable spots in all of Europe. In fact, it’s known as a great place to retire because of its cost-effective living. If you’re just taking a trip to Montenegro, expect to stay at a 5-star hotel for around $100 a night.

It can be a bit difficult to find flights to Montenegro, so you’ll have to investigate travel more than you would for many Eastern European locations.

6. Georgia

Georgia is another brilliant country to visit in Europe if you’re traveling on a budget. This country is also in Eastern Europe, with neighbors Russia, Armenia, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan. Hotel rooms in Georgia are very reasonably priced, and you can expect nice accommodation for around $100 per night. As far as food goes, you can expect to spend under $15 per meal.

Like Montenegro, Georgia lacks substantial travel infrastructure. That means you’ll just have to pour a bit more time into finding the best way to enter the country.

7. Portugal (Cheapest in Western Europe)

Because the most affordable spots in Europe are all located in Eastern Europe, we thought we’d include the cheapest country in Western Europe: Portugal! The stunning oceanside country of Portugal has the most affordable prices in Western Europe, and it’s completely underrated.

While the city of Lisbon is more expensive than the rest of the country, Portugal as a whole is around half the price of many countries in Western Europe. You can expect to spend between $60-100 for a great hotel, depending on what city you’re visiting. Meals and drinks in Portugal are also reasonably priced, with dinners costing around $20-25.
