Where is IAMS ProActive Health Urinary Cat Food Made?

Iams has a number of plants in the United States. You’ll find these plants in Ohio, Nebraska, and North Carolina. Most cat foods distributed throughout the United States are made in these locations.

On top of these locations, this cat food company owns an international distribution company in the Netherlands. As you can see, they make none of their foods in China or Asia.

Iams Proactive Health Urinary Cat Food Ingredients

While this food is extremely budget-friendly, it does include some higher-quality ingredients. For instance, the ingredient includes both chicken and chicken by-product meal as the first two ingredients. These ingredients provide lean protein and all the amino acids that your cat needs.

Grains make up the rest of the ingredients. For instance, ground whole grain corn remains the third ingredient. The recipe list also includes corn grits and brewer’s rice.

Whole grains do provide high levels of nutrients. For instance, many whole grains include high levels of fiber. Most cats need decent amounts of fiber to improve their digestive system.

The rest of the ingredients include different vitamins and minerals that your cat needs to thrive.

Which Types of Cat is IAMS ProActive Urinary Cat Food Best For?

Because this recipe is specifically designed for cats with urinary health problems, we recommend it mostly for those with reoccurring UTIs. However, this food does not include many of the pharmaceutical ingredients that other urinary health foods do. Therefore, it does not require a prescription.

Therefore, you can get it easier than other options out there. If your cat gets reoccurring UTIs but doesn’t need veterinary cat food, then you may want to consider this food.

IAMS ProActive Health Urinary Cat Food Recalls

While this particular food has never been recalled, IAMS has undergone several recalls over the years. Most recently, this company had to recall several formulas because of potential salmonella contamination. A little bit earlier in 2017, the company issued a withdrawal of other formulas because of potential mold growth.

In 2011, IAMS issued another recall for some dog foods, which contain high levels of aflatoxin. While allowed in small amounts, dogs that eat this contaminate in larger amounts can get sick.

Three recalls occurred in 2010 – this time in IAMS cat food. IAMS had to recall lots of formulas for low levels of thiamine, as well as the risks of salmonella.

The Menu Foods recall also caught IAMS, though it affected much of the industry. This recall occurred because melamine-contaminated a supplier’s rice. This supplier happened to provide lots of rice to the dog food industry. Therefore, several companies had to recall their foods.

For these reasons, we highly recommend this food for adult cats. It provides a complete diet.

Safety

While IAMS has undergone several recalls, they have fewer recalls than other options out there. For this reason, we consider them safer than your average cat food. They are not having recalls every other year like some other brands.

Additional Benefits

As the name suggests, this food provides extra benefits for cats with urinary tract problems. For instance, it provides high levels of vitamin E, which can improve a cat’s urinary health.

We particularly like that this food may improve your cat’s urine pH, which can significantly improve urinary tract problems.

Price

IAMS ProActive Health Urinary cat food remains one of the cheapest options out there. Therefore, it provides an option for cat owners on a budget. For this reason, we recommend it for those who are on a strict budget.

With that said, this cat food does cut some corners to remain low-priced. For instance, it includes by-products.

IAMS ProActive Health Urinary Cat Food vs. Hill’s Prescription Diet C/D

While both of these foods begin with chicken, their ingredient lists remain very different. Hill’s Prescription Diet includes high levels of pharmaceutical ingredients, such as lactic acid. However, because it remains more powerful, it also requires a veterinary prescription.

For this reason, we recommend IAMS Proactive Health Urinary Cat Food for those with minor urinary health problems. If your cat has serious urinary tract problems, you may want to switch to Hill’s Prescription Diet instead.

Bottom Line

IAMS ProActive Health Urinary Cat Food provides extra support for cats with urinary tract problems. For instance, it may lower your cat’s urinary pH, helping reduce future UTIs. Plus, it also includes quality ingredients like chicken and whole grains.

Cat owners will love that this food has a lower price.
