Where is Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly Made?

According to their website, all Blue Buffalo pet food is made in the United States. We don’t know where exactly this formula is made. However, we know that it is made somewhere in the United States.

The only Blue Buffalo food not made in the United States is Chomp ‘n Chew dog treats, which are co-manufactured in Ireland.

Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly Ingredients

Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly is made with slightly different ingredients depending on the form and species the food is for. However, they all start with chicken as the first ingredient, with chicken meal as the second ingredient. These quality meats are perfect for both cats and dogs, assuming that your pet is not allergic to them.

Whole grains are also included, such as brown rice and oatmeal. Whole grains contain several nutrients that your pet can benefit from. They are also relatively high in fiber, which can help settle your pet’s digestive system.

Plus, this pet food includes added nutrients that are typically found in higher-quality foods. For instance, flaxseed is added for extra omega fatty acids, which help with coat and skin health.

On the other hand, this food does include a lot of pea protein. While this isn’t necessarily a harmful ingredient, it may be related to severe heart conditions in dogs.

Which Types of Dogs and Cats is Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly Best Suited For?

As the name suggests, this food is best suited for pets with sensitive stomachs. If your dog or cat experiences regular stomach upset, you may want to consider switching them to this food. It is specifically designed for pets with digestive problems by using digestible proteins and stomach-supporting ingredients.

However, this food is not necessarily a good option for dogs and cats with chronic stomach problems. While this food may be okay for some chronic problems, you need to speak to your vet about your pet’s specific diagnosis. Sometimes, a veterinary diet may be better.

Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly Recalls

This particular brand of Blue Buffalo food has never had any recalls. However, the company itself has had quite a few. Usually, these recalls only affect one recipe or a very few recipes. Therefore, while Blue Buffalo has experienced many recalls, not many of its recipes have been recalled.

Most recently, the company recalled their Wilderness Rocky Mountain Recipe for potentially high levels of beef thyroid hormone. Certain other dog food brands were also recalled for this reason, so it was likely due to a supplier.

Just a month earlier, in February 2017, Blue Buffalo recalled some other canned dog food for aluminum contamination. Due to a packaging problem, the company also recalled some other wet foods that month.

In May 2016, moisture problems in some of their sweet-potato recipes led to mold problems. Of course, this prompted another recall.

The company has several similar recalls. Most of them were caught very early before they injured a dog or cat.

Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly Specs

Safety

Blue Buffalo is known for having many recalls. They have more recalls than most other dog companies – and they do not have a considerable portion of the pet food market. Therefore, while this particular recipe has not been recalled yet, it may be in the future.

Furthermore, Blue Buffalo also does not always take responsibility for past recalls – often blaming them on suppliers. However, that does not allow us to believe that the company learns from its mistakes.

Ingredients

Blue Buffalo makes their food in the United States. However, they do source their ingredients from around the world. This policy had caused a few recalls when out-of-country suppliers messed up one of the ingredients. For this reason, their ingredients may not be as safe as others.

However, overall, Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly uses relatively high-quality ingredients. Meat is very high on the list, and this company utilizes a range of veggies and whole grains. Therefore, you are getting quality ingredients for your purchase.

Price

Blue Buffalo is typically known as a premium brand. Therefore, you’re going to pay a premium price. They are not a budget pet food. (However, in many cases, you do get what you pay for.)

With that said, they are far from being the most expensive option out there, either. There are quite a few brands that are much more expensive than this formula.

Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly vs. Purina Beyond Natural Grain-Free Chicken Dog Food

Purina Beyond Chicken Dog Food is a bit less expensive than Blue Buffalo. It is not explicitly made for sensitive stomachs. However, it does include all-natural ingredients and many of the same features that the Blue Buffalo formula has.

For instance, it includes chicken as the primary ingredient and probiotics.

Bottom Line

Blue Buffalo Blissful Belly is a product line for both cats and dogs that are designed for sensitive stomachs. It is made with very simple, natural ingredients to prevent stomach upset. Omega fatty acids and other helpful nutrients are also included. Plus, it includes chelated minerals for extra absorption.
