Albania is a small European nation tucked in between Greece, Montenegro, and Kosovo. The natural landscape of this 7-letter country features rugged mountains and an extensive coastline stretching along the Adriatic and Ionian seas in the Balkan region. Interestingly, Albania has a predominantly Muslim population, a remnant of its long-standing Ottoman reign.

Spanning an area of 28,750 km² (11,100 mi²) and a shoreline of 362 km (224.9 mi), Albania claims the title of Europe’s 18th smallest nation and sits at 145th globally.

Tirana, the nation’s heart, is not only the administrative capital but also one of the top attractions for visitors. On the other hand, Saranda shines as a premier holiday destination in Albania, celebrated for its pristine beaches and lively party scene.

Saranda lies a mere 40-minute boat trip from the Greek island of Corfu and is a stone’s throw from Butrint, Albania’s premier archaeological park recognized by UNESCO.

When it comes to food, Albanian dishes resonate with the flavors of the Mediterranean. This translates to an abundance of fish, greens, fruits, nuts, and the generous use of olive oil. Yet, meats like beef, lamb, veal, and even pork (eaten by the non-Muslim population) find their way to many Albanian tables.
