About Goiás

Goiás is in Brazil's Central-West. Its wildlife is shaped mainly by the Cerrado, South America's large tropical savanna. Strong wet and dry seasons, poor soils, and regular natural fires have made open grasslands, shrub savannas, and rocky outcrops. You can find armadillos and anteaters, wide-ranging carnivores, and many birds that like bright, open places.

Rivers and streamside (gallery) forests add more life. These forested corridors gather wildlife in the dry season and link habitats across the open land.
