Coast near the Amazon estuary isn't clear blue; the river's muddy plume makes the water brown, but it feeds rich food webs that help fish nurseries in mangroves and estuaries, especially inside Cabo Orange NP.

Amapá's mudflats and mangroves are vital stopovers for migratory shorebirds that breed in the Arctic and fly to northern South America; some travel about 10,000 km and refuel there to rebuild fat reserves.
